Buying a villa with a pool

It’s hard to think of a property more attractive than a villa with a swimming pool! Investing in such a property is about enjoying the best of times as a couple or as a family.

An architect-designed villa with infinity pool perched high on a Provençal hill. A beach villa with a full-size pool and a children’s pool. A Sables d’Olonne-style villa with heated outdoor pool in the Morbihan…

Highly prized and highly sought-after, a villa with a pool combines a character house with a crucial facility that everyone in the family will love: its pool. Whether on a gentle slope or excavated, overflow or mirror, the pool adds radiant appeal to the property, putting it at the pinnacle of wellbeing. There’s no denying that having your own pool brings many benefits: chilling at the water’s edge after a hard day’s work, enjoying a candlelit dinner with your feet in the water, providing a great play space for the children, and perhaps an aquagym for the not quite so young! In the summer it offers a great curtain-raiser to the summer holidays.

A villa with a crucially private pool

Like pools, villas come in many shapes and sizes. Contemporary, single-storey, California-inspired or architect-designed, a villa with its own pool may be an eco-house, loft-style or neo-classical. Because the pool is far from being the whole story !

Ideally, the pool should be designed with input from the architect who designed the house. So if you live in a restored mill, the pool could perhaps be designed and constructed from old stones and fed by waterfalls. Architect-designed homes sometimes have their own pool house or beach area.

A pool tailored to your needs and desires

Just like the house, the pool should be designed for the use you want to make of it, so if you want to be swimming winter and summer, you really need a heated pool! If you have a large family, it may be a good idea to choose a villa with a children’s pool as well. And if the thought of maintaining a full-size pool puts you off, but you still dream of starting the day with a few lengths, why not opt for a swimming lane ?
